As soon as I read about Merci, I had to mention it in Merci, Do-Good Haute Shopping (March 7, 2009).
Crunching visitors numbers today, I am not surprised to see that it became our most read new story of 2009.
Here's what this unusual Paris Shop is about.
In Fashion family decides to say "merci" (IHT, March 6th), Jessica Michault informs us that "the shop, which opened March 5, gives luxury customers exactly what
they need right now – guilt-free shopping. All the profits, after
production costs are deducted, will go to a children's charity
in Madagascar."
Since I wrote the story, they added a one page Merci website (French only, illustration below) that doubles as a thank you note to those who all year long supported the endeavor.
They quote Jean Giono's words “j’ai ce que j’ai donné” which would translate to 'I have what I have given away'.
Thank you, Merci
