I was going through the list of Le Cordon Bleu World Food Media Award Winners which were announced at Tasting Australia 2010 on May 3rd and thought that one book stood out.
The title, From Spiders to Water Lillies Creative Cambodian Cooking with Friends captures your attention and imagination.
Besides that, the cookbook distinguishes itself by being a way to raise awareness and I guess funds for Friends International – Mith Samnang an NGO working with street kids in
Cambodia and also running restaurants.
It was co-authored by Gustav Hauer, Friends hospitality coordinator who used the restaurant and food project as a way to help kids reconnect with their roots and get a sense of self.
From spiders to water lillies already had won 2 prizes at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards in Paris on July 1, 2009.
