OK, I am climbing aboard a moving train.
While checking on the first few classes which took place at Thyme at Southrop, I found out that one of them, Maria Elia, the author of The Modern Vegetarian (Kyle Books, March 2009) was on her way to Sani Gourmet 2010 in Greece.
Greece has been headline news lately but not for its culinary delights.
Sani brings together Greek chefs and a number of others from various locales.
In 2010, for the 5th edition of the festival they asked the following question:
How will they try to answer that:
Nevertheless, we have assembled thirteen women chefs from around the world, a critical
mass of feminine culinary talent, gathered for the first time in one place, the Sani Resort.
Thirteen success stories – but stories of women whose success was never assured, just as the
success of our own Sani Gourmet Festival could never have been taken for granted."
On the Greek side, we find Georgianna Hiliadaki of Funky Gourmet and also Dina Nikolaou of Evi Evane who has a duo with Kaori Endo, (pictured below) combining Greek and Japanese foods and techniques.
From Catalonia, Montse Estruch of El Cingle will treat attendees to a menu including Aubergine dumpling with lardo di Colonnatta and Stuffed Squid a la Catalane.
The French contingent includes Babette de Rozieres whose most recent venture is Table de Babette in Paris and Reine Sammut of Auberge La Feniere with a Provencal and Mediterranean bent.
You can find all 13 women and their profile in the Gourmet Chefs Page along with menus they are offering.
