What's happening on May 3rd?
A three-day international conference in honor
of World Press Freedom Day 2010 meets on the topic of "Freedom of Information: The Right to
Know" in Brisbane, Australia.
Hosted by UNESCO and the University of Queensland May 1 through 3,
this year's World Press Freedom Day conference will have a strong focus
on freedom of information and press freedom challenges and developments
in the Asia Pacific region.
Nations General Assembly as World Press Freedom Day. All around the
world on this day, supporters of media freedom celebrate the fundamental
principles of press and media freedom that are articulated in Article
19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The key global World
Press Freedom Day event held each year is the World Press Freedom Day
conference, which is hosted by a different country every year."
In Japan, May 3rd is Constitution Memorial Day or kenpou-kinen-bi in Japanese, the second holiday during Golden Week which runs from the end of April until May 5th.
May 3rd also happens to be my birthday.
