Learning of the passing on Sunday of a young lady who was my co-worker for a number of years brought a cloud of sadness.
Once the element of shock subsided, the next wave of thoughts was how precious and fleeting life is so why spend our workings hours, days, years doing things we are unhappy with.
The Japanese describe this as mono no aware, literally "the pathos of things"), also translated as "an empathy toward things," or "a sensitivity of ephemera" (according to Wikipedia).
Ephemeral like the delicious bowl of Vanilla and Rhubarb mousse below which will melt away if you don't enjoy it now.
