Titled Writing and Cooking, the sold out 6 day course started on July 12 and runs until July 17, 2010.
Students will be mentored by Peter Gordon and Yotam Ottolenghi at Arvon Foundation in Devon.
What will they learn?
Here's what the program aims for:
"This course will explore the many facets of food writing, from recipe
books and foodie magazines through to personal food memoirs,
travelogues and blogs. The tutors will explore what makes a good food
writer resonate with the reader using their unique personal voice.
Students will be involved in various hands-on assignments including
cooking with the chefs and a journalistic investigation."
Joining Peter and Yotam is Lulu Grimes of Olive magazine.
I found this always useful piece by her How to handle a sommelier, or not (January 2009, Good Food Blog).
More precisely in Totleigh Barton
Sheepwash, Beaworthy,
Devon.
Courses at the Arvon Foundation I learned are designed to "provide a nurturing environment
where newcomers can begin writing, and existing writers can expand
their skills and hone their craft."
It was "founded in 1968 by the writers John Fairfax and John Moat, who were close friends of the poet laureate Ted Hughes."
I heard about the food writing course over the week-end while catching up with Peter Gordon who I interviewed in The World on Your Plate (April 2010).
