Cloudy with a chance of showers is what the weather man says Sunday, August 22 should be.
You might want to scrap a day at the beach and if you are in the New York area, take a walk around the city.
Foodie friends should make time for a visit to the New Amsterdam Market between 12:00 Noon and 4 PM.
Why?
Well, besides being home to some 50 vendors, the market will host 2 tastings/ fundraisers that day.
Not sure why, noticed the Ice Cream Fair first with 6 ice cream and sorbet makers offering 12 plus flavors.
For $20 you will be able to sample 6 of them served in mini-cones to leave the guilt out.
The guilty parties responsible for these sweet treats are The Bent Spoon (from Princeton, NJ), Roberta's, Early Bird Cookery, Marlow & Daughters, MilkMade Ice Cream (a NY ice-cream club of sorts, they 'hand deliver'), and Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream (from Green Point, in store or from the truck).
In my humble opinion, the second tasting should actually be the first you try (if you want to try both) since it is a Tomato Festival ($20 also for sampler) featuring tomato dishes by Jorge Collazo (SchoolFood), Meg Grace (The Redhead), Mary Cleaver (The Cleaver Company), and others. All tomatoes featured at the tasting will be available for purchase from New Amsterdam Market vendors!
Want the Combo, Tickets allowing you to taste both events are $35, save $5.
Proceeds go to support New Amsterdam Market (old Fulton Fish Market diggs).
