Fat Tuesday, Shrove Tuesday or Mardi Gras as French speaking countries call it is celebrated from New Orleans to Quebec City (on ice) to Binche in Belgium.
Even though it has Christian roots, the holiday is popular in Senegal where majority of the population is Muslim.
If you turned 16 just in time for Mardi Gras and live or happen to be in Switzerland, all you will be served is wine, beer or cider (or soft drinks of course).
Or did i get it wrong and the holiday in Switzerland as in Germany is called Fasnacht…
Is it where Doughnuts come from if I am to believe Fasnacht (pastry) entry on Wikipedia?
