Before heading to the morning Austrian Seminar offered by VOS Selections as a prelude to its tasting on Monday in New York, I scanned the other than wine line up on the bar at City Winery and quickly noticed, Armorik, a Breton whisky.
It was my last sip at that event after tasting a number of Armagnacs by Marie Duffau, a Marc de Bourgogne 'A la Cloche' by Jules Belin and Absinthe (68%) from La Muse Verte, the absinthe was sugar free by the way. All these were showcased by Heavenly Spirits…
Armorik is produced by Distillerie Warenghem whose portfolio also includes Melmor Chouchen.
I have not had Chouchen since I was in high school.
The bar across Lycee St Marc carried it and rumor had it that if you had more than 2 glasses of Chouchen, you would start walking backwards. In our teenage years it was enough to prompt us to try.
Heady stuff!
