Japan is slowly trying to get back on its feet.
Robbie Swinnerton of Tokyo Food File commends Second Harvest Japan for their efforts in delivering much needed help to people in Tohoku for example.
Robbie also notes that expats living in Tokyo can show their support for the effort by visiting Tokyo International School and dropping much needed supplies for the Second Harvest Japan effort.
What they need:
- Food & Beverages (MUST be unexpired): rice, canned items, retort-pouch food, food for elderly people, baby formula and baby food
- Items for Baby & Elderly People (MUST be unopened): baby diapers and adult diapers
- Items for Soup Kitchen (MUST be unused): paper plates, paper cups, plastic spoons, plastic forks, chopsticks and saran wraps
- Other (MUST be unused): brand-new underwear, wet wipes, masks, shampoo that does not require water, towel, portable gas stove and portable gas
You can stay updated on the work in progress via Emergency Response Portal set up by Second Harvest.

Thanks Serge for highlighting this effort to bring emergency food and other items to the hundreds of thousands of people in need.
It really is a MASSIVE issue (as you may have guessed from all the horrific tsunami images) and there are a lot of people who are going to be without homes and jobs for a very long time.
best wishes from Tokyo…
