Making the trek for 1st Great Canadian Cheese Festival (June-June 5, 2011), would allow me to combine cheese excess with visits to some of the Prince Edward County winemakers I met at Seriously Cool Canadian Chardonnay Tasting in New York on March 8.
To decide if I should stay or I should go, let me ask Jean Morin of Fromagerie du Presbytère if he can send me a taste of his award-winning Louis d’Or.
I will try not to be greedy and ask for the whole wheel.
Amongst the events on Saturday's schedule, I noticed a Vertical Tasting of Canadian Cheddar.
More up my alley is Battle of the Blues presented by Andy Shay will show the variety of taste and texture in Blue Cheese. Amongst those showcased will be Tiger Blue (British Columbia) and Dragon’s Breath (Nova Scotia).
I realized I could actually catch up with some of the local winemakers on Sunday during Cheese Fair and Artisan Food Market which besides 100 plus cheeses from 30 producers (coast to coast) will feature a dozen local winemakers and brewers.
All this sounds like a good reason to travel north of the border.
Great Canadian Cheese Festival takes place at Historic Crystal Palace on the Picton Fairgrounds in Picton, Ontario.
