You and I take literacy for granted, some kids and adults struggle with it.
Rather than put on a fundraiser with boring speeches and run of the mill food, the San Diego Council on Literacy invited a dozen plus chefs from the area to concoct dishes inspired by a favorite book.
The result of their creative labor will be on display during Eat Drink Read event on May 18, 2011.

I chose Chef Jared Van Camp of Quality Social as an illustration.
Idea for his homemade hotdog came from A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole (1980).
While most chefs got their ideas from fiction books, Bernard Guillas and Ron Oliver could not resist plugging recipes from their cookbook, Flying Pans (2009)
Event takes place at NTC Promenade from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM.
Admission is $60.00 per person. Wine, beer, and appetizers are included with admission.
