I don't know much about Jewish culture except for some of the writings of Isaac Bashevis Singer and a few others.
In the food department, I did meet with Peter Wasserman a couple years ago in a New Jersey Jewish deli. I think he ordered for me.
A less succesful food encounter (on the ordering side) was during Punk's heyday in London (late 70's).
I was trying to grab a bite around 4/5 PM near Hammersmith Odeon before going to a 999 / Runaways gig and the only option was a kosher restaurant.
Since I did not have a clue what menu items where about when the server came to my table I pointed to a dish another table was having and in the end was served a different dish.
Nothing was wrong with the food. It was just 'alien' to me.
Getting back to the topic at hand, I would surely benefit a great deal from attending Gefiltefest 2011 in London on Sunday, May 22, 2011.
This year's Program definitely seems more lively and entertaining than any Chef blah blah contest.
I don't know what the Flavors of Babylon were yet it's not too late to learn courtesy of Linda Dangoor
