You would have to be a marathon runner in sprinting shoes to take in all 9 museums that take part in the 33rd Museum Mile Festival on Fifth Avenue in New York from 6 PM to 9 PM.
What you get for the evening:
- FREE ACCESS 6pm – 9pm to all the museums along the mile
- 23 car-free blocks 5th Avenue between 82nd & 105th (some foul mouth drivers might curse art for this)
- Live bands
- Entertainment
- Art-in-the street activities for kids
Since I have not visited it yet, I would have started with Neue Galerie in 1914 landmark building on 86th street. I would have then had to chose between Jewish Museum at 92nd Street and Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum at 91st Street or maybe tried to get a taste of both.
Worth noting besides 'Set in Style' at Cooper Hewitt is Color Moves, Art and Fashion by Sonia Delaunay which closes on Fathers Day (June 19)
while stop at Jewish Museum would fetch Maira Kalman: Various Illuminations (of a Crazy World)…March 11, 2011 – July 31, 2011 and Collecting Matisse and Modern Masters: The Cone Sisters of Baltimore…May 06, 2011 – September 25, 2011 to name two… Last stop on this mile af art and culture is the soon to re-open Museum for African Art at 105th Street.
If you forgot an umbrella for the rain, you can always grab an artsy one from the museum shop.
