One of my sisters recently seized the opportunity of a visit to Madrid to cast her net in Castilla y Leon for more details on the Spanish side of our family (my mother's father).
Grandpa was born in 1907 in Villacastin (around 1600 souls these days) near Segovia and emigrated to France in the 1920's.
It would be presumptuous to think that after an 80 plus year gap, my sister would run into remnants of the family. She did not.
I learned that my great grandfather was a taylor though.
What dis a taylor born in 1840 do to satisfy his 19th century clentele?
Why in the world did I for past 30 years think that my Spanish roots where near Sevilla not Segovia?
With these close to clear roots, I will take a renewed interest into the Wines of Castilla y Leon which have much to offer.
Regional cooking of course will have a prominent seat at my table as well.
Bonsoir!
