An invitation to visit Gourm.it stand at Cheese 2011 in Bra brought their latest member Lavialattea to my attention.
Dedicated to small producers, Gourm.it informs us that Lavialattea is a family owned artisan dairy in Brignano Gera d’Adda (Bergamo) known for its raw milk goat cheeses.
I was especially taken visually by their Ol Sciura.
A rough translation from Sapori d'Italia review of Ol Sciura conveys that it is a blue cheese inspired by soft cow's milk cheese often found in the countryside of Lombardy.
They note that Lavialattea's owner, Valentina Cano, has adapted it for goal milk. The rose petals and berries used for the rind give it another dimension.
Sapori d'Italia notes that Ol Sciura "means "the Lord", the "boss", and emphasizes the richness of flavors that literally "explode" in the mouth: the scent of berries soften slightly spicy notes dell'erborinatura, balanced with the sweetness of goat's milk."
Now the 'boss' has to hit my palate.
Those present at Cheese 2011 on September 18 at 7 PM will have the opportunity to taste cheeses by Lavialattea paired with Monte Amiata beers.
