To stay in tune with the chilly New York area temperatures, what could be better than a Drift Ice Walk Tour in Shiretoko National Park located on the northeastern tip of the island of Hokkaido (Japan).
You need a guide for it obviously and Lantoko is just the company for it.
Their short description of the outing is: “It’s an outdoor activity that you can only experience in Shiretoko!
You put on a special dry suit, and walk on the surface of drift ice and hop between the ice floes while accompanied by experienced local fishers who will look out for your safety.“
Among the guides is Nobu, a seaweed farmer.
Current season is set from February 1 to March 20. It might change based on weather conditions.
I discovered this outdoor adventure thanks to Justin Randall article for Japan Times.
