I was listening to snippets of Clotilde Dusoulier of Change Ma Vie (Change My Life) talking about morning rituals this week-end.
I don’t do journaling, meditation or breathing exercises. I do stretches before getting out of bed. That’s about it.
I don’t get up early. I have not been an early riser for over 2 decades.
My 16 plus years working late hours in the restaurant business might have played a part in that rhythm.
Being over 68, I don’t wake up with the urge to ‘eat the world’.
What anchors me, even more on the 3 week days when I leave the house to head to New York City for work, is making my bed, clearing the sink of dirty dishes and other small tasks.
I don’t know yet if my day will be smooth sailing. I do know I will not face disorder when I return home. I am not doing it in the name of efficiency though.
It puts my mind at ease.
So put me in the morning routine category of human beings if you wish.
Where morning ritual was supposed to bring meaning and mindfulness into the mix, it has for many being turned into another to-do-list and become another efficiency tool.
