Does Etiquette applies when asking for Freebies?
Debbie Stier of Harper Studio wonders out loud in Free Lunch, Anyone? if a sense of measure has been lost by some actors in the 'new media sphere'.
She mentions someone asking for 100 copies of a book for her/his site.
I do ask for review copies of titles I am interested in at times.
The same applies to some food products.
I don't guarantee a review for each and every item.
I might work with the publisher or the company to have a contest for readers or arrange an interview with an author.
I don't approach it as a land grab for all and everything under the sum while I can.
I take a long term perspective, looking at it more like a mutually beneficial collaboration.
Is the land grab part of the Freemium wave?
Where is the premium though if we all come to expect free movie, free music, free books, free news?
Does it mean we put Zero Value on the Creative Process, on Work?
Could it just be down to bad manners?
Should we stop acting like spoiled children who want it and who want it now?
