I am not sure that I would feel safe enough or have the temerity like David Byrne and many others have for many years to pedal my way around New York.
I guess if enough people do the switch and adjustments are made to the traffic flow (separate bike lanes and all) the bike to work (or to leisure) crowd will keep growing.
Earlier today I heard David on the radio mentioning that in Copenhagen, one third of the commuters bike to work. As he noted, it was derided at first and was years in the making…
To share his adventures and impressions around the globe, David Byrne recently published his Bicycle Diaries and is doing a Tour of Sorts to discuss Cities, Bicycles and the Future of Getting Around.
On September 22nd at 7pm the tour stops in New York City at Barnes & Noble in Union Square.
Next stop is Austin on September 27 at 7pm (Paramount Theater) and Seattle on September 28 (same time) at Town Hall.
