Soft pop with and witty lyrics, Loquat has been one of my favorite new bands over the past couple of years.
The combination reminds me a bit of Prefab Sprout back in the Steve McQueen days.
This Spring 2009, they settle for a month of Thursdays in May at Cafe du Nord in their hometown of San Francisco and promise that "every week will be different, reworking older songs, polishing up new ones, learning new covers, etc."
Singer Kylee Swenson Gordon and bass player (and hubby) Anthony Gordon recently shared their favorite local haunts with Aidin Vaziri in Biking and chilling before gigs (SF Chronicle, April 19).
Kylee's first pick , Mojo Bicycle Café, a combination bike shop, bagel place and coffee shop sounds interesting. I wonder who inspired 'the rider' flying lady (below).
As for Anthony Gordon, one of his favorites places to stop by for music and libations is Casanova (in Mission District) where he notes "the drinks are always strong, and the women depicted on the black-velvet paintings adorning the walls are always nude."
Hope I can catch them live some day.
