Soda is not one of my addictions, nevertheless In search of the world’s best soft drink a soda trek by Graham Holliday on Word of Mouth got me wondering about Irn Bru, a soft drink proud to be Scottish but said by the author to be banned in the USA. Is it true?
Graham’s description "It doesn’t look too appealing, but fresh out of the fridge, there’s none better, none more distinctive. Not only that, it’s stacked with ammonium ferric citrate which has gotta be good for you, hasn’t it?" makes you wonder what the concoction is made of.
Oddly enough it sounds like, in the author’s view, Vietnam would beat the UK anytime as for the range of sodas available.

Irn Bru, if banned, is certainly available in my area (SW Ohio). It’s available at jungle jim’s international grocery (junglejims.com) just north of cincinnati, and wise choice groceries (wisechoiceuk.com) just north of dayton, oh
Wikipedia says,
“The legal status of Irn-Bru in the United States is unclear. Several American companies import Irn-Bru, yet it is currently listed as a banned substance by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The FDA website[4] lists Irn-Bru and Diet Irn-Bru as containing the banned carcinogenic colouring Ponceau 4R, and Sunset Yellow FCF, which the FDA has to approve on a per-batch basis[5]. One importer, Irn-Bru usa. [6], modifies the drink to conform to FDA requirements.”
