I never heard of glamping until I stopped by Cool Travel Guide which paid me a visit recently.
Glamping sounds like the name for a disease to me but is actually camping with the comforts.
Hey! we are getting older.
The word amounts to a mashup of glamor and camping.
The concept in itself is nothing new.
Many high end safaris in Africa use some of these comfy tents and you do not have to lift a finger as a staff is there to set up the camp, cook, clean and whatever else you need.
Should we call this ‘outdoor adventures without the bugs’?
In Gone Glamping, Athena Tsavliris (canada.com) suggests that we forget about roughing it in the bush, glamorous camping is here to stay.
In the UK, Camp Kerala will offer its tents with bohemian chic (my illustration) at the Glastonbury Festival.
The price tag for 2, £7,000 (plus tax) includes ( I quote) "two VIP tickets to the festival, luxury accommodation for two in an
authentic Shikar tent, all food and the full use of all the famous Camp
Kerala facilities; chill out areas, bar and the best loos and showers
possible, with the fabulously efficient and friendly Camp Kerala staff
on hand 24hrs a day to look after your every need".
Rhiannon Batten in Cool Camping (The Guardian, 2006) offered a number of options in the UK.

I’m thinking about buying my own wood so that I can go camping whenever I want…won’t be as up market as this though!
