Not sure why, I have not written anything San Francisco related in a while.
It took a couple of Facebook items shared by chef Liza Shaw of A16 to make me realize.
She is currently working her way through The 2010 Big Eat SF: 100 Things to Try Before You Die. I think she stands at 60%.
I wonder if 7X7, the site/magazine behind the Big Eat SF was inspired by the BBC List 50 Things To Eat Before You Die (mentioned here in March 2006).
I am a bit far from the Bay Area to work my way through this very local list so I will just mentioned 5 things I would give a shot at if you flew me to San Francisco for a week-end. 5 restaurants sounds doable.
My 5 Picks:
I would start with anything including Morning Bun at Tartine Bakery for breakfast.
Oysters on the Half Shell at Swan Oyster Depot would be perfect for lunch.
Place has been around for 90 some years.
Coffee-rubbed pork shoulder at Range, open for dinner only. They are closed on July 4th and 5th by the way.
On second day, I could have Fried-shrimp po’boy at Brenda’s French Soul Food for Lunch. They serve, breakfast, lunch and brunch on the week-end. Not many items over $10…
I would conclude with cebiche chifa (Mahi Mahi with peanuts, scallions, ginger, pickled carrots and
daikon, habanero pepper, wonton strips and cilantro in sesame
leche de tigree) for dinner at La Mar, a taste of Peru.
Now that the food part of the week-end is planned, I have to decide what sightseeing I will do in between meals to re-open my appetite.
