This evening as I am washing cauliflower before cutting it and dropping it in hot water, I ask myself if I should keep putting a piece of bread with it while it cooks just because I saw my grandmother and my mother doing it, time and again?
Is it part of these things you do out of habit without remembering why?
I think the rationale for cooking cauliflower with a piece of bread was to prevent it to taste bitter.
A stranger take in my youth was hearing that a woman having her periods should not attempt to make homemade mayonnaise. Don't ask me why?
I guess each country, culture and generation has its own food stories.
What is yours?
