Two years ago (2011), a last minute invitation to Nordic Feed food conference in Copenhagen allowed me to catch a glimpse of Copenhagen Cooking with Nordic Taste on Sunday afternoon before my flight back.
The 2013 edition of Copenhagen Cooking opens in slightly more than 2 weeks on August 23.
For this ninth edition of the event, organizers are putting the emphasis on 'social food':
"Get ready to eat at long tables, exotic street kitchens and mobile kitchens in Copenhagen’s squares and public spaces."
They are also looking beyond Scandinavia's borders:
"This year the city’s vibrant Vesterbro area joins in the fun with culinary delights from Singapore. The owner of Singapore restaurant namnam and co-founder of restaurant Noma, Claus Meyer, has invited chefs directly from Singapore’s hawker centre to Copenhagen to conjure up authentic street food at various stands in the heart of Vesterbro."
The official photo for Copenhagen Cooking 2013 above "pays tribute to P.S. Krøyer’s famous painting from 1888 – ’Hip, hip, hurra!’ – depicting a lunch event in Northern Jutland’s Skagen. However, in this photo the setting is the Royal Gardens in Copenhagen anno 2013. Although the sumptuous lunch still sets the tone for sociable get-togethers with old friends and new acquaintances. Then as now. The photo also heralds events with the focus on ‘social food’ that will form part of this year’s Copenhagen Cooking."
I have fond memories of my Nordic Feed experience including the few hours as guests of Jacobsen's Brewer Marten Ibsen and also a memorable take on Power of Darkness to Inspire Change by Claus Meyer (Noma).
