Food is part of our culture and culture is a big part of New Orleans revival post-Katrina.
One of the young institutions contributing new blood to the New Orleans scene is the Southern Food and Beverage Museum or SoFaB.
What they are about (in their own words):
"The Southern Food and Beverage Museum is a nonprofit living history organization dedicated to the discovery, understanding and celebration of the food, drink and the related culture of the South. We opened our doors on June 7, 2008 at the Riverwalk Marketplace in New Orleans, Louisiana."
Food and cooking are living things and keep evolving.
It also has an history which can be traced through cookbooks and menus.
They are the foundation of Southern Food & Beverage Museum Collection at New Orleans Public Library, 8000 books and 3000 menus strong if I have my facts right.
Feel free to correct me if I am mistaken.
Since menus have a seasonal life they launched the Menu Project "in conjunction with the University of New Orleans" they are "collecting menus from every restaurant throughout the South and Southern-inspired restaurants everywhere in the world".
They will have a yearly menu drive to keep things up to date.
As for current events, they have a New Orleans Con Sabor Latino cooking demo with Chef Adolfo Garcia on September 18 from 2 to 4 pm (Free with Museum Admission)
