Book signings and events can be boring, mechanic events.
Such was not the case with Gabrielle Hamilton Blood, Bones & Butter stop on her world domination tour at my local Watchung Booksellers.
I arrived as event was getting under way.
I only had the chance to speak one on one with Gabrielle for a couple minutes towards the end.
I tweeted some of the nuggets Gabrielle served throughout the evening.
Here they are for the non-tweeting crowd plus a few other bits I gleaned.
-A book tour is like Facebook unplugged
-I don't do social media
-Blood,bones,butter was 5 years in the writing, scribbling notes on butcher paper, skipping on sleep
-Her kids are not too adventurous yet not flippant about food (8 year old girls with allergy and diet concerns scare her)
-There are always things to learn from reviews from mainstream media.
-On Hellman's mayo: For a nice grilled cheese, forget about butter or oil, lather bread with mayo
-I've got 25 restaurant years left in me, I hope to see my kids bussing tables in the place one day
-On thrift clothes: a good salvation army store is worth the drive to Buffalo
-Brunch at Prune: people sometime wait 2 hours for a table, for eggs, it helps the bottom line though
-Brunch at Prune 2, it's not really about the food, it's a social moment, the whole day is ahead of you
-A Prune global empire, no thanks, Las Vegas might be nice though
-On Social Media: It's like Mc Donald, food with no nutritional value
My version of Brunch I guess
